The research lab belongs to Universitätsklinik für Hämatologie und Hämatologisches Zentrallabor, Inselspital/Universitätsspital and Department of BioMedical Research, University Bern. Our work focuses on inflammation and haematopoiesis.

Research Synopsis

Haematopoiesis is the complex process by which mature blood cells of distinct lineages are produced from pluripotent haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). Defects in this process can lead to several hematological malignancies. Inflammation is a highly coordinated response of the immune system to infection, cellular injury or irritants. Recent studies suggest that inflammation influences haematopoiesis and that chronic inflammation might contribute to the development of hematopoietic malignancies. Our lab is working to understand the relationship and molecular mechanisms between haematopoiesis and inflammation, and how dysregulation of inflammation (inflammasome activation) causes aging and myeloid malignancies. Recent work in our lab is also centered on understanding mRNA-specific translation and Ribosomopathies.
